Wat’s a matta – You Don’t Like Humor?
There are a lot of people in the world who don’t understand a humor blog or the point of comedy. Yesterday, we were fortunate enough to be linked from a Facebook application for a travel group.
They linked to an older blog on Waltsense called “The 5 Worst Accents in the Worldâ€.  At the time it was posted, it maybe received 300-400 views and had little to no comment reaction.
When posted on facebook to a targeted audience of people who love to travel and appreciate accents; all hell broke loose. We received hate-mail calling me a racist, ignorant, and very insensitive.
In the context of the blog, that may be true. But they are completely missing the point of humor.
Chris Rock can say “I’m not saying he should have killed her, but I understandâ€, because the audience understands his humor and the context of which he says it is to shock and make you laugh. I guarantee you Chris Rock doesn’t really think O.J. was justified!
Here are some the reactions we received from this post:
- “I got hot under the collar at about 10 different posts hereâ€
- “You are a racist!â€
- “Accents are one of the many things that make traveling interesting, ya’ll. I like them all. It’s people’s attitudes that stink sometimesâ€
- “Hopefully in real life we can suspend those biases and assumptions and listen beyond the accents to the real people and their messagesâ€
One of my business partners wanted to post a disclaimer saying we don’t mean to offend, etc. I said no-way, this is great business. We received over 1,200 unique views and we received a bunch of new fans.   Name a comedian who is famous for playing it safe.
From a PC perspective, the angry viewers are correct. But in reality, the foreigner that lives in American should try to speak English. THEY LIVE HERE! I do not live abroad, if I did, I would try and speak the language.
The fans who visit to our site don’t wan to read a PC correct blog on mothering or how to make money on adsense. They wish to be entertained. I blog like I live my life, with humor and fun.
Humor is best used in all types of media. There is one thing that I never understood about television commercials. Why do advertising companies make serious commercial? There should be a law that makes all television commercials funny. It would stop wasting everyone’s time and we would actually not have to flip channels to avoid commercials.
I know I reach for the remote as soon as I see a serious television ad.
Do you know how funny a commercial about erectile dysfunction could be? The possibilities are endless for that topic. You could have a tiny white guy on a packed bus surrounded by large African-American males; each of them laughing at him as he looks around worried and insecure. There doesn’t even need to be dialogue here. We would all get the point.
People have too much to worry about at home and at work, and they don’t want to waste time reading something serious.
We started this blog as a venue to show my screenwriting and comedy bits I have written over the years. As it started to grow and develop a fanbase, it’s now more of a fun hobby the three of us partake in. We have a write, a coder, and someone who will socialize the site through online networks. Sometimes we have guest writers who are actually our fans.
Along the way I’ve been introduced to some agent types and we even have some sponsors as well. We’ll see where it takes us.
Your blogging habits should mirror your real life. You should write what you know. It is the only way to be successful.
Walt Haley is the author and publisher of the very comical blog, http://waltsense.com. When you need a break from the mundane and the serious, head over to WaltSense and put a smile on your face.

This post hits so many points that I can relate to. Being an Aussie we are constantly being accused of being racist. The truth is though that we are just very laid back and a more than happy to take the piss out of whoever may happen to walk in the room. It’s nothing personal, just a bit of fun.
But the point is that is just a bit of harmless fun and if you can’t laugh at yourself, dig a hole and jump in now.
And you’re final point Walt is so relevant. Blog about what you know, and if you can add humor to it, then all the better.

Great article….its amazing how short-sighted people can be and they expect a whole world of peace love and equality. Well – you can act that way and you should but entertainment is that for a reason- you need outlets to laugh and joke… it appears Waltsense has this down.

So true! And you’re right Walt does have it down. Although there is a lot of toilet humor. I mean that. Posts about falling asleep in the toilet, about men getting toilet seats stuck to their ass, posts about the smell of toilets… I think Walt may just have a toilet fettish that he hasn’t shared. And I FEAR that is coming soon.

Walt sense is one of the most racist blog sites that is out there. Look at this article about a commercial about erectile dysfunction. A small white man on a bus surround by large African Americans??? Are you kidding me?? That’s horrible. That commercial would never be made by anybody with a sound mind and what exactly is he insinuating here? Only large African Americans ride the bus and they have no problem preforming sexual intercourse? That they look down and laugh at the only white man who is suffering from a major dysfunction. No dialogue huh? Maybe their laughing cause he’s white, due to the economy has no money and now has to take public transportation with African Americans. That’s the message it’s sending!!! Wake up people!!! How many stereotypes is he trying to advertise to the major public market here. Public transportation is used by thousands of diverse groups and erectile dysfunction affects every type of race, ethnic group. There’s a difference of trying to be funny and being racist and making fun of certain groups of people and Mister Waltsense.com here, has achieved what he’s trying to actually do, spew his racist opinion under the weak guise of humor on the internet. What a shame.

I’d suggest you take look on Youtube for the comedy of Ralphie May. As Ralphie says, forget about being politically correct. JUST BE CORRECT!
The example of the commercial clearly has one single insinuation – white men have smaller appendages than black men. You may not like it. But it’s correct. That’s life my friend. I can’t help but wonder if you were equally as upset by the movie White Chicks.
Racism is not making fun of certain groups of people. It’s about degrading and a particular race. A black comedian on TV here in Australia just last week made a gag about Australians and pointed out ‘you’re not a race’. Did people get upset? Not a bit. In fact it was the opposite. We all laughed wholeheartedly at what was a very funny joke. I guess we are fortunate in this country that fun is still fun.
But the point of Walt’s post demonstrates that humor is being lost to political correctness. When it comes to humor blogs, the problem compounds. So I’ll agree with Walt and say blog about what you know. If you’re funny, be funny. Not everyone will like it but it’s never going to be possible to please everyone all of the time.
