I totally agree as well. I see many who “say” they want to do something. Then when it’s realized it takes effort, it doesn’t get done.

I’m just as guilty. I “said” I wanted to learn to play guitar, and my wife actually bought me one a couple of Christmases ago. I practiced for about a month, then stopped doing it.

Yet, if I want to master the instrument, I must put in the time and effort to do so. At least I realize this, so I think that’s an improvement over making excuses, right?

I truly believe that a goal without action is merely a dream. Dreams may not come true, but goals can with the commitment to take massive action.

To me, dreaming is like “trying”. If you “try” to pick up a pencil, you never will. If you DO pick up a pencil, then you actually do it.

And yet, that is probably the biggest reason some never reach their goals. They simply do not take action.

It’s number seven for me. Without any action there will never be any results. You have got to take action and this is how I am overcoming my writers block.

Well, I actually believe people fail mostly because they only look for the goal and since it takes time to reach it they don’t see any improvements. Thanks to smaller tasks you will constantly see new improvements.

Stefan you make a great point there but I’d have to say that the tasks are not the goal. They may well be the things that get you where you want to go but if that’s what you focus on then it’ll all seem like it’s too much. That’s the reason so many people give up on their dreams. They think it’s too hard because they are focused on the tasks instead of focusing on that desired end result.

Simple but great post. I would just like to add a thing to your first point though. Break down your goals into realistic tasks. Even though you might write down a goal to “get 1000 daily visitors” you will need to break it down and create tasks to accomplish this.

I also try to read a book a week and I highly recommend more people to do so. If you cut your hours in front of a TV, IM or social bookmarking sites you will find more time to do things. By reading you will find inspiration, experience and also hopefully get a better vocabulary.
