Is Jeremy 'Shoemoney' Shoemaker Gay?

Posted on 01. Jul, 2009 by Andrew in Feature, Marketing

shoemoney Is Jeremy 'Shoemoney' Shoemaker Gay?What a provocative question. And in all honesty its not something I have an answer to and nor would anyone else other than Jeremy himself. Given that he has a wife and child its pretty unlikely.

Yet that wasn’t enough to stop one of Jeremy ‘Shoemoney” Shoemaker’s twitter followers eluding to the idea.

What was the purpose of the comment?

It’s possible that it was a personal attack but in all likely hood it was a pure grab at some publicity. It was either a contrived plot between the two or just a blatant stunt from the tweeter. In the end the result was the same. The tweeter got the attention, the publicity, and the traffic that they were looking for.

That in itself is not such a bad thing but there is a limit to what you should do and how far you should go in your attempts at gaining publicity for your business. It doesn’t matter if you are an online or offline marketer you need publicity, and controversy has always been one sure fire method of attracting attention.

Will the title of this post cause controversy? I certainly hope so. Will I generate traffic from it? That’s almost certain. Will I piss anyone off? That’s pretty unlikely and that is the point I am making here.

This post title will certainly attract attention, and combining it with the chosen image is pure link bait. That’s the desired result and you should work to improve your own skills at doing this type of thing as well. It’s the type of headline and use of imagery that you find every single day in the mainstream media and it works. Just be clever about your link baiting and promotional efforts and stay on the up and up.

If you are going to do or say something controversial as a publicity stunt make sure you don’t go pissing people off. Especially someone who could potentially become an ally and partner. I don’t know Jeremy personally but he’s certainly not someone I’d want to get on the wrong side of because who knows what the future may hold.

Lets not forget that he is an authority in the ‘make money online’ niche (even if he doesn’t like it, its just a fact) so he can weild a hell of a lot of power. Therefore it’s not in my best interest to piss someone like that off.

So what is the moral to this story? Consider the side effect of any contraversial publicity stunt or you could end up burning your bridges.

Interesting take on it all. Initially I was thinking “so what if he was,”, and I was basing that stance on the title of the post. After reading it, I realized you were going in a much different direction, and it’s an effective way that you did it.

There are many people who will go after someone just to become popular; not my style.

Well hey..you know… if you’re going to write an effective article on link bait – bait the hook first. :)
