7 Steps to Make Money Blogging

Since the phenomena of blogging began back in 2001, millions of blogs have sprung up across the internet. Some have been extremely successful, and others have been complete failures. When you take a good close look at why some work and some don’t, it quickly becomes clear that there are two very distinct reasons.

1. The blog owner is not passionate about the topic that they are writing about and has very little knowledge on the subject.
2. Too often blog owners make some sort of attempt at making money without regard for how that might effect readership.

7 Steps to Make Money Blogging

1. Passion
If you want to make money blogging then the main ingredient to your success will be your passion for your topic. Pick something that you know about, something that fires you up. If you’ve decided that you want to make money blogging then choose a topic that you could sit and talk with your friends about for hours on end and still be excited about it.

2. Persistence
Don’t expect overnight riches. A money making blog is not created overnight. It takes time and it takes commitment. There are days, weeks, even months that things just don’t seem to be working out. Stick with it. Don’t give up. Your rewards will be in direct contrast to your efforts. If you apply a consistent effort to your blog then you will see the rewards. Usually when you least expect it.

3. Value
This is a topic all on its own so really think this through. You need to provide value to your readers. There is so much to do and see online and time is precious. What can you offer to your readers that they will value and enable them to justify giving up their own valuable time to sit and read your blog? The more value you can provide your readers the longer they will stay and are more likely to tell their friends about you.

4. Be yourself
There is no right or wrong way to write a blog. If you are a trained writer and your able to write in a traditional and formal way that’s great. Even if your not though it really doesn’t matter. I am not a trained writer and I write the way I talk. My writing style is very informal but also conversational. However you write, you need to engage your readers at some level and with you own voice.

5. Interaction
One of the most important aspects of a successful blog is your ability to interact with your readers. You can easily do this by using many different methods such as asking questions, giving tasks or homework for your readers, running polls or anything else that will get them more involved. Comments are the primary form of interaction on a blog so always ensure that you take the time to respond to the comments left by your readers.

6. Build relationships
The most important aspect of to being able to make money blogging is to build a relationship with your readers. The primary marketing principle is that people buy from people they know, like and trust. You want to make money from your blog and the only way to do that is to allow your readers to get to know you. You should now see why those first five steps are so important. When your readers know you they’ll begin to interact with you and through that they show that they like you. Build a relationship of trust with your readers by offering advice, information support, and share your own experiences with them.

7. Build a list
If you’ve done all of the above effectively then it’s time to start building a mailing list. Offer your readers a reason to subscribe to your list. When they know, like, and trust you they will be more willing to subscribe to your list. The mailing list provides you a way to market to your readers even when they have not visited for a while. The real secret to successful internet marketing and making money blogging comes from email marketing.

Like anything else in life, if you want to make money blogging then you need to be passionate and committed to it. If you’re passionate about what you’re writing about it’s easy to write good content that provides value to your readers. In hindsight if you’re doing it simply to make money then you’ll probably fail because you have no passion, your readers will see right through it and you will never build a relationship of trust with them. Be yourself, make it a conversation, interact with your readers providing value and build trust.
