7 Criteria for Choosing a Home Business or Income Opportunity

Posted on 31. May, 2009 by Andrew in Feature

Choosing a home business can be a daunting task. With so many new income opportunities bombarding us each day how do you know which one is right for you?. When you know what to look for the task can become so much simpler.

7 Criteria for Choosing a Home Business

  1. Are you required to warehouse or inventory stock?
If you are required to warehouse stock your going to need space – and lots of it. If you are not careful you could end up loosing half your house and garage just for the sake of keeping enough stock on hand. If not your going to need to rent a warehouse and then you’ll need to ask yourself “‘is this really a home business at all”?
  2. What level of training is provided?
All too often a new home business opportunity arrives on the scene, and promise the world. Only once you’ve started up with them your left high and dry with no idea of how to market or sell the products. The company your starting up with MUST provide a clear and complete training program so that you can easily learn the ropes and get into a money making position.
  3. How long has the parent company been in business?
I tend to look for companies that have been around the block a few times – and I would suggest that same for you. There are plenty of legitimate home business opportunities that are still young, but there are just as many that are not. If your looking at a relatively new company you should really ask yourself if you can afford to be the guinea pig.
  4. What tools are available to you?
Does the company have an existing system already in place to assist you with your marketing and prospecting? You want to be able to get up and running quickly so you will need to make sure that the company can provide you with all the systems you will need to be operational in the shortest space of time possible. You don’t want to have to find and set up everything yourself. There is often a small fee attached to those systems but usually well worth it.
  5. How solid is the compensation plan?
When its all said and done, it really comes down to this. How good is the compensation plan with your chosen home business opportunity?. Does you cut equal the effort you have put in?
  6. How often are you paid?
Most affiliate systems will only pay you once a month, possible every 2 weeks. Try to find those that pay you up front. If the customer is paying you directly then you are clearly in a far better position. The frequency of payment can be critical to your success.
  7. Big Ticket versus Small Ticket items.
This is down to personal choice but choose well. Small ticket products require a lot more marketing simply because you are going to need to move a whole lot more product. This is where big ticket items can be at an advantage. Making just 1 or 2 sales a week can put a significant amount of income in your pocket. With small ticket items you might find you need to sell over 100 units a week just to break even.

The Bottom Line: Whatever home business opportunity you are looking at make sure you know what you want to get out of it. It must have tools available to assist you, it should provide you with ongoing training and support, have a clear and beneficial compensation plan and most importantly should pay you as quickly and as often as possible.
