10 Steps to Starting Your Blog from Scratch. (Part 1)
As you probably know by now I was recently challenged to create a blog that makes $5000 a month within 12 months on a $500 startup budget. So I felt that its only fitting that the blog is designed to help others who are just starting out in the online marketing world (and other skeptics like my friend) to watch and learn how a brand new blog with no traffic and no income streams can quickly turn into a very profitable enterprise.
Over the course of the coming weeks and months you are going to learn about what you need to be doing to make your blog a success. I am not talking about a blog that is simply a diary for your latest adventure or conquest, I am talking about something that you will soon be earning a sizable income from. Now while the two do go hand in hand, and we will talk about that later, be clear of what the intention and the expectation is.
For now let me just say that blogging should be fun and you should enjoy doing it. If your not then you’ve either picked the wrong niche or your simply not cut out for it.
This is going to be an ongoing series of step by step, real life practical lessons and examples that will be easy for you to follow along and copy exactly what I am doing. If you follow each of the steps, by then end of this you will have a very popular blog that is now able to potentially replace your full time income (or perhaps even better).
If you haven’t done so yet, subscribe to the RSS feed and to my newsletter where I will be giving updates and progress reports that I will not be disclosing in the blog itself. If you want to keep up with my progress make certain that you subscribe. You’ll also be receiving some free gifts along the way.
When you first get started in the world of online marketing in any form, as you probably already know, you can quickly suffer from information overload while you look around for information to get you started off. Quite often the information that you are getting is probably not right for the stage that you are at.
Like anything in life you need to know how to get started and starting off correctly is critical to your success. You don’t start a 1500 meter race from the 600 meter mark, and the same goes for your new blog if you want it to be a success. Start at the start. This seems pretty simple I know but you’d be amazed at how many people try to skip the important first steps and mess the whole thing up, then go on to blame someone else for their failures or just give up completely. It doesn’t have to be that way for you in fact you need to make a decision right now. Make the decision to follow along and make the decision that no matter what it takes ‘I Will Be Successful’!
The first of this series is a multi-part article that will cover the first 10 things you’ll need to do if you want to start a blog that will eventually become a profit center for you. These initial steps all come well before you have even setup your blog, written a single post or any of the other ongoing tasks that you will have later on down the track.
You’ve no doubt heard of the 80/20; 80% of your efforts produce 20% of your results and 20% of your efforts produce that other 80% of the results. Well this is your 20% stuff right here. Get this part done correctly and you will have ensured 80% of your future success.
Let’s face it, anyone can setup a blog and start writing any old junk without giving it much thought, but if you intend on making money from blogging then like anything, you need to begin on the right footing. This initial series will get you pointed in the right direction and will cover all the basic necessities of making a success of anything. In fact once you have followed this guide all the way through, and you have your blog running and earning a good income you will have learned everything you need to know and can apply it to every area of your life to ensure success in whatever you set out to do in the future.
Before we begin though have a read of this excellent article by David Foster. It just emphasizes everything I am saying here. Then come back and start following these steps one at a time. Don’t move on to the next step until you have mastered each stage that your up to.
So lets get started!
Step 1 – Get a copy of ProBlogger
You might think that this is blatant a sales pitch but let me assure you that if you are serious about getting started on the right footing then the lessons you will learn from this manual will be paramount to your blogging success so take my advice. Darren Rowse of ProBlogger.Net is the unmistakable AUTHORITY when it comes to successful blogging so grabbing a copy of this guide simply makes sense. The cost is ridiculously low for the value of information provided and when you consider that information is going to be responsible for you making a serious income from blogging then the return on investment is as good as it gets. I would also advise you to bookmark that site and visit regularly and subscribe to the feed and mailing list.
As Tony Robbins says: ‘If you want to be successful, find successful people and copy what they do and you will have the same results.’
